Don’t Play the Blame Game

Since we are already on the topic of not making excuses, let’s talk about the blame game. Part of living a fulfilling life is learning to accept responsibility for our failures as much as we accept responsibility for our successes. When things don’t go your way, avoid pointing the finger of responsibility at someone else. Don’t blame other people for your problems. Their actions may have led to your current circumstances to one degree or another, but you have the power to stop blaming and rise above the circumstances. Always remember that your character is not measured by what happens to you, but by how you respond to what happens to you. When we blame people or circumstances for our situation, we are assigning ourselves “victim” status. Blaming robs us of time and energy. It causes us to harbor negative thoughts and focus on other people. Often, these “other people” aren’t worth our time or energy. We need to move past the blaming stage and use our time and energy in a positive way. Make a choice not to be a victim of the blame game. Make a choice to focus on the things that you can control. Make a choice to accept responsibility when you make a mistake. Make a choice to accept responsibility when you fail. Others will respect you for it, and so will you.
